Choosing The Right Acids For Proper Skin Rejuvenation

Before you panic thinking or hearing about using acids for your skin, hang tight with us.  If you saw the episode of Sex and the City where Samantha got a chemical peel, you may be wondering WHY in the world we’re still talking about using acids for your skin.  The good news is the acids and the use we’re talking about are nowhere near as harsh as the ones referenced in the show, so no need to panic.  Recently, there’s been a lot more chatter about using acids for skin rejuvenation and you know we’re always about keeping you up to date in your skincare knowledge.  So before you go about using an acid for your skin, we’re talking about choosing the right acids for proper skin rejuvenation.

Understand What You Want to Accomplish
Just like with any other skin care product or ingredient, to make sure you’re making the most of what you’re using you’re going to want to make sure that you have a goal in mind.  You can’t accomplish what you want, unless you actually know what you hope to accomplish – right?  Right!  So before you even get started with using any acids or looking into them for the purpose of your skin, make sure you have an idea of what you’re hoping to accomplish with using them.  Acids are used for many different purposes related to your skin, from resurfacing to minimizing the appearance of pores to even reducing acne.  There’s an acid for essentially every skin concern.

Narrow Down Your Choices
Once you’ve decided what you’re really interested in using acids for, it helps you to narrow down the list of acids that you’re going to start looking into a bit further.  Like many other types of skin care ingredients, many are beneficial for more than one reason.  Do a bit of research to really narrow down your list to a few to make things less overwhelming for yourself.

Consider the Common Acids
Since we’re focusing on skin rejuvenation here we, of course, wanted to mention a few of the most commonly used acids for rejuvenating skin.  Gallic acid is a commonly used acid for really helping users to have firmer, tighter skin that really gives you a fresher more youthful look.  Of course, you’ve likely heard of citric acid – it’s a pretty commonly used acid in the skin care world and with good reason.  Citric acid has been found to help give the skin a total rejuvenation and really resurface the skin to help it look more youthful.  Azelaic acid is an acid that also does duty as a really strong antioxidant.  It’s been found to help reduce acne, hyperpigmentation, and redness – talk about rejuvenating skin, huh?  Lactic acid is another acid you’ve likely heard of in terms of skin care.  It’s used pretty frequently, and is found to be incredibly beneficial in removing dead skin cells and having an exfoliating effect on the skin – both benefits are crucial to skin rejuvenation.
