There are many things we as women can do to maintain our appearance on a daily basis. For example, applying cosmetic products, fixing our hair into a fashionable style, or applying creams and lotions to our skin. What if some of the things you were doing to improve your looks were actually causing more harm than good? Today, Lionesse would like to provide some insight as to some of the beauty mistakes you might be making every day which might actually age you in the process.
Forgetting to Wash off Makeup before Bed
Your absentmindedness could cost you – in the youthful appearance of your skin, that is. Science has shown that for every night you forget to wash your cosmetics off before bed, your skin actually ages by two days. That’s a scary figure! To prevent this from happening, always remember to use a good makeup remover – whether in liquid or wipe form – and do this every night to remove any traces of makeup in which you may have applied throughout the day.
Not Following Proper Cleansing Habits
Forgetting to cleanse your face twice a day can be detrimental to your overall appearance, shows science. Not using a good cleanser that is specific to your skin’s needs can also harm your skin. Be sure to cleanse morning and night, and always use products specific to your particular skin type.
Forgetting to Moisturize
Forgetting to moisturize can also affect your skin. Moisturizer, when applied once-twice a day, can help the skin remain supple, firm, and provide a healthy glow. Forgetting to use a good moisturizer can also allow your skin to become dull, dry, and lack in luster. Moisturizing is also essential because it helps to provide your skin with essential SPF ingredients, which comes standard in many brands of moisturizing cream.
Forgetting to Exfoliate
Facial exfoliation could be major to maintaining a youthful appearance. By using a good facial peel or face polish, you can rid your face of all of the dead, dry skin accumulated throughout the week, and encourage new skin cell growth. On the other hand, over exfoliation can lead to dryness, redness, and other skin problems. During the winter months, exfoliating 1-2 times per week is recommended. During the spring and summer months, exfoliation is generally only needed once per week, and sometimes less often.
Applying Too Much Makeup
Over applying cosmetic products to your face can cause your skin to age, and can also cause you to look older than your years. Cosmetic products which have a darker hue, such as crimson red lipstick, generally should be applied as a main focal point. By applying too much of a dark color scheme, such as lips, eyes, and cheeks, you will generally appear older than your years. Stick to one dark color and the rest neutral colors, and don’t over apply.
Choosing a ‘Too Old For You’ Hairstyle
Some hairstyles generally make you look old and worn down. Short hair tends to add years to your appearance, and can really impair your ability to achieve a youthful look – no matter what you do. To remain youthful, try opting for a longer hairstyle, paired with neutral makeup for a flawless, youthful look.
Whether you implement one or all of these changes into your beauty routine, you will undoubtedly remain youthful – or at least, appear youthful – for years to come.
