Sunless Tan Tips

Summer weather is about to be here before we know it. Although the sun always feels great, it’s no secret it’s not great on our skin. Not to mention, as an adult we’re rarely able to spend much time outdoors to get a real summer glow. The good news? Sunless tans are a real thing now, and you’re able to get a gorgeous summer glow without stepping foot in the sun. Seriously! There are a few sunless tan tips to keep in mind to help get a flawless tan that doesn’t end up splotchy or streaky, and we’ve got you covered with our favorite tips.

Exfoliate Your Skin First
We’ve discussed the importance of exfoliating your skin before, but it’s not just good for your skin it’s also great for your sunless tan! When we have dead skin cells and build up on the top layer of our skin, that’s often what leads to developing streaks and splotchy spots with your sunless tan. For the best sunless tan results, you want to make sure you’re starting with as smooth of a surface of skin as possible, and the best way to do that is by exfoliating your skin. Exfoliating is essential whether you’re going to a spray tan salon or using some sunless tan products at home. Smooth skin will give you that nice surface to have product applied to giving you much more even color.

Avoid Hot Water
Hot water isn’t great for your skin in general, but it’s  even worse if you’re hoping to keep your sunless tan intact. The truth is hot water can literally strip the sunless tan product off of your skin. Yep, even if you just went and got a spray tan at a salon. Hot water tends to strip the skin of its natural oils and it’ll do the same thing with your sunless tan. Instead of using hot water, stick to warm or luke warm water to get yourself clean but also keep your sunless tan color intact. You’ll thank us when your tan stays on and doesn’t streak for a much longer period of time!

Moisturize
Some people tend to be afraid to apply too many products when they have any sunless tan color on their skin in fear that it may cause streaking or the color to be lost. However, that’s not the case with moisturizing products. In fact, you’re going to want to really emphasize on keeping your skin moisturized when using sunless tan products. Dry, flaky skin typically causes streaks, flakes, and splotchiness to occur when sunless tan color is on the skin. When your skin is well moisturized your skin is able to really hold on and absorb the sunless tan products and keep the color much more even than without. Make sure that you’re focusing on areas like your palms, elbows, knees and hairline-these areas tend to show streaks and dryness more often and can have color vanishing much more easily.
