Summertime is a time for change, and revamping your hair style. There are many different things you can do to change up your look and give yourself that perfect summer style. Perhaps you’re used to always flat ironing your hair, which may work well during the cooler, less humid months – but now, with high humidity levels, many of us don’t want to risk spending the time taking on a flat ironing session only to have frizz come knocking to attack our style. That’s why Lionesse has created this awesome little summer styling tips post, to help give you the rundown on the current style, plus tell you how you can utilize each to your advantage. Read on below for tips and ideas.
Use Hair Serum
Hair serums provide many different benefits to the hair, such as:
- Frizz control
- Heat Protection
- Protection from the environment
- SPF properties
Using a hair serum should be part of your summer styling routine to keep your hair in check, and always keep it looking its absolute best. You can use most serums straight out of the shower before blow drying and flat ironing your hair, or before any other type of heat styling. Also, hair serums should be applied using your fingertips and never directly to the hair itself. If you’re going to be flat ironing your hair, you will definitely want to incorporate an anti-humidity or all-in-one serum into your styling routine.
Rock Some Updos
Updo’s are the perfect addition to any summer style. There are many different types of updo’s that are appropriate for summer, such as:
- Buns – various styles, such as sock buns, cotton candy buns, ballerina buns, messy buns and more
- Ponytails – high or low
- Braids – lots of different types to try, such as fishtail, Dutch, waterfall, etc.
- Chignon – similar to a bun but more elegant
There are also many other styles of updo looks that look great for the summer months. Give some different styles a try to find your perfect summer look.
Beachy or Boho Waves
Beachy waves and boho waves are huge this summer, and you can get the look yourself at home in about 10 minutes total, no matter your hair type or length. There are different ways to achieve the beachy wave look, but one of the best is to use a good sea salt spray. Apply sea salt spray to damp, clean hair, and scrunch. Blow dry on a lot setting and hit the hair with a shot of hair spray to finish. Boho waves are very similar to beachy waves, yet they don’t have as much of a messy look as beach waves. Boho waves can be done with a curling iron, curling wand, flat iron, or even by pinning hot sections of hair up onto the head to cool, and then releasing them. There are many tutorials available online to learn how to create a style that works best for you.
If you’re having one of those days where you just don’t feel like doing your hair or you’re way too pressed for time, going natural is a great summer look. Besides – bed head is in (still), and therefore, why not take advantage of it every now and then? If you really want to play up a natural bed head type style, add some texturizing spray or pomade and away you go.
If you are in the mood for a change up for summer, why not opt for some classic blonde or copper hued highlights? Highlights look oh-so-summery, and can provide that extra something you need to feel beach ready in no time.
If you’re thinking about a hair change aside from perhaps a color change up or highlighting service, maybe you could opt for a new layered hairstyle or shorter style altogether. Both of these types of styles look great for summertime and provide plenty of summer flair.
