Skin Care Tips For Summer

Woman in sunshine

Summer means sunshine, rose wine, and outdoor parties-right? All of these things are true, but the summer season also means that our skin is going to be faced with some different challenges and attributes. We’re all about enjoying all the incredible things the summer has to offer, but we’re also all about keeping your skin as healthy and protected as possible. Do you use the same skin care routine in the summer as you do the winter season? If you do, you’re going to want to rethink that habit. Before you make any changes to your routine, read on to discover some of the best skin care tips for summer.

Don’t Wash Your Skin Too Much
Since we tend to be outside more often during the summer, and tend to produce more sweat it’s common to feel the need to cleanse your skin more. Sound like something you do? The problem with washing your skin more often during the summer to try to accommodate the sweat/outdoor feeling is it can be very drying to the skin. Resist the urge to wash your face more than twice a day, if you feel like you need a little refresh or soothing to your skin use a toner instead.

Bump Up the Protection
By now you already know that protecting your skin with SPF every day is necessary to keep your skin healthy and protected from the sun’s harsh rays. In addition to gaining protection with SPF application, it’s also suggested to add a serum that’s loaded with antioxidants into your summer skin care routine. Serums are great for adding an extra layer of protection to your skin because of the antioxidants. In addition to the protection element serums provide, they’re also incredibly soothing and nourishing to the skin. Since we tend to spend a lot of time outdoors this time of year, our skin needs the extra boost serums provide. To gain the most benefit from serums, apply them after your cleanse/tone your skin and before you apply your moisturizer. Give your skin enough time to soak up the serum before applying the moisturizer.

Don’t Skip Moisture
Adding to what we mentioned above, moisturizer is essential in any summer skin care routine. Since it is hot this time of year and typically humid, many people feel like they can skip the moisturizer step in their skin care routine but that’s not the case. Your skin actually needs more moisture this time of year to keep protected and hydrated. Always apply a quality moisturizer to your skin this time of year. You’ll want to find a moisturizer that’s formulated to your skin type, but a bit lighter weight. The lightweight formulas tend to work better on the skin this time of year because the heat and humidity tends to leave products feeling heavy on our skin.

Drink Plenty of Water
Finally, we had to mention the importance of water. Drinking a lot of water this time of year helps to keep your skin healthy, protected and hydrated. Stay consistent with how much water you’re drinking to compensate for the heat!
