Shower Routines That Can Improve Your Skin

Taking a shower is a routine that we’re all in the habit of doing on a daily basis. While we typically go through the motions when it comes to your daily shower, you may be surprised to learn that there are some shower routines that can improve your skin. Yes, we said improve your skin. If you’ve been working towards improving your skin and can’t seem to get things on track you’re in the right place. While a shower seems like a simple task that we all need to do, we’ve discovered some things you can do to take your shower routine up a notch.

Exfoliate Regularly
So often when we think and hear about exfoliating we think only about our facial skin, but the rest of our skin needs exfoliation too! One of the best things you can do in the shower, for your skin, is exfoliating your entire body 1-2 times every week. Exfoliating in the shower is great because your skin is nice and soft so you don’t have to scrub or rub too hard in order to really get the benefits of exfoliating. Dry brushes and exfoliating mitts are easy to use to really get your entire body exfoliated. This will help to eliminate any dirt, grim and oil that you may have on your skin that’s not easily released from just your typical shower. Additionally, exfoliating will help get rid of any dead skin cells that may be on the surface of your skin.

Turn the Temperature Down
We get it, taking a hot shower is incredibly soothing and relaxing. However, that hot temperature on the water isn’t so soothing for your skin. In fact, your skin can be suffering if you’re using hot water when you shower. Another great routine you can get into with your showering habits is to turn the temperature down to a warmer setting, rather than hot. When you use warm water (instead of hot) your skin isn’t being stripped of its natural oils. Using hot water does that, and can cause a lot of dryness to result in your skin.

Apply Lotion Right After Your Shower
Moisturizing your skin is crucial to really maintaining its health and glowing appearance. If you really want to make the most of your moisturizing efforts, the best time to apply moisturizer is right after you get out of the shower. Your skin is soft and much more likely and able to soak up moisturizing products than any other time of day. This is the best time to apply a heavier weight moisturizer to really add that dose of moisture to your skin, and help your skin to lock in the moisture once your skin adjusts to being out of the shower.

Use the Right Body Wash
There are so many body wash options available, but just like choosing skin care products it’s important to make sure that you’re using a body wash that’s going to work with your skin type. Consider your skin type when choosing your body wash, and avoid a lot of fragrances.
