What It Is
Eyeshadow contouring is the process of applying a couple of different shades of eyeshadow to the eyelid to provide depth, dimension, and to brighten and open the eye, giving it a youthful appearance. Here are a few of the ways you can contour your eyes – starting with the most helpful and useful for younger looking eyes.

How Its Done
Contouring can be beneficial for women of any age – but particularly helpful for women in their 30’s and 40’s in terms of providing a youthful appearance.

Depending on your eye shape, there are different ways to contour to give your eyes a brightened depth. The two most important shades of eyeshadow you will need to contour are skin colored shimmery highlighter, a dark brown hue, and a shadow one shade darker than your current skin tone. This is how to contour for the following eye shapes.

To add dimension to the eyes and give them more of an eyelid appearance, apply the shades in such a way that they have a gradient effect, fading either way into one another. You can use a white based highlighter to really add that brightened, youthful and awake look.

If you have hooded eyes, the only thing you will need to do to contour your eyes is to lightly dust a dark matte shadow across the entirety of your eyelid. Voila – you’re all set! To get a more youthful appearance, apply a white based highlighter to the bottom lash line area (underneath) and use a white eyeliner pencil applied to the water line to open the eye and give it some youth.

Apply your darker hue to the center of the eye, and use a white based highlighter on the outer and inner corners of the eye.

Use a matte brown shadow across the entire lid, and use a darker hue on the outer corner of the eyelid. To give an appearance of youth and brightness, apply a white eyeliner to the waterline, and focus some white highlighter on the inner and outer corners of the eye. Blend well.

If you have small eyes and would like to give them an appearance of being a bit bigger and brighter, you will want to use a medium shade to open up the eye area a bit, and then go into the inner corners of your eyes with a white based highlighter to brighten the eye area.

For this type of eyelid, we want to minimize the amount of protrusion, while brightening and giving depth. You will apply a shimmery hue to the eyelid, while applying a darker shade to the crease of the eye. From there, apply a white based highlighter to the inner and outer corners, and even to the center of the eyelid – dab a bit on and blend.
